Washington, D.C. — September 2, 2025 — Today, the non-partisan ethics watchdog, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) urging an immediate investigation into Rep. Tom Suozzi for violating federal law and House ethics rules by using official taxpayer-funded resources for political purposes.
Rep. Suozzi has both official and campaign X accounts. On July 14th, 2025, Suozzi posted a video on his official X account discussing his position on immigration. Just four minutes later, the identical video appeared on his campaign X account. The timing and duplication of the posts strongly indicates coordination between his official and campaign offices - an explicit violation of federal law and House rules.
Under House ethics rules, Members are prohibited from using any official resource - including congressional staff time and work product, all government buildings and house offices, and social media accounts - for a campaign or political purpose. For instance, a Member’s campaign account may not include any official content or resources, nor may the campaign and Congressional offices coordinate social media postings. Rep. Suozzi clearly seems guilty of violating both standards here.
“Rep. Suozzi’s conduct is not a trivial mistake. When Members choose to break these ethics rules they do so to advantage themselves politically–but it is at the expense of the public’s faith in government. These laws are in place to protect both tax-payer dollars and the public’s trust in a fair and impartial government. When the public sees blatant disregard for the most basic and obvious ethics rules, confidence in Congress erodes. In this case, Rep. Suozzi’s actions appear clear and the Office of Congressional Ethics should act quickly to hold him accountable.” said Kendra Arnold, Executive Director of FACT.
