FACT Response to FTC Refusing to Investigate Clinton Foundation

Updated: Mar 19, 2019

As more information has been discovered though emails and other public records, there have been numerous questions raised about the Clinton Foundation. Hillary Clinton's recently released emails showed numerous instances where Clinton Foundation donors apparently received preferential treatment from Clinton's State Department, which the FBI is reportedly investigating.

FACT has also asked the IRS to investigate the Clinton Foundation for making improper payments to Hillary Clinton's failed 2008 presidential campaign. As a nonprofit, the Foundation cannot be used to benefit an individual.

Similarly, members of Congress had asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate the Clinton Foundation because evidence suggested it may be a "sham charity." Unfortunately, the FTC has reportedly ignored Congress's well documented concerns and rejected the request. In response to this news, Matthew Whitaker, the Executive Director of FACT, released the following statement:

“It’s shameful that a federal agency, which prides itself on exposing deceptive practices and advocating for a level playing field, has turned into a partisan defender of the Clintons and their family business interests. The concerns raised by Congresswoman Blackburn and her colleagues are serious and well-documented. Last year, I expressed similar concerns when I asked the IRS to investigate the Clinton Foundation for making improper payments of nearly $350,000 to erase campaign debt from Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign. As a nonprofit organization, Clinton Foundation income cannot be used to benefit a private individual. Additionally, last year’s State Department dump of Hillary’s emails showed numerous instances where the Clinton Foundation and its donors got preferential treatment from the government. If they can’t take concerns about an organization already under FBI investigation seriously, then maybe the FTC should be renamed the Foundation for The Clintons.”
